Is AI earning its place? Five questions settle it.

You have been pitched AI four times this quarter, and every pitch was confident. These are the five questions we ask in every Growth Assessment, arranged so you can ask them of yourself — about the tools you pay for, or the one you are being sold this week.

Question one: start with the job

Start with the job.

Can you name the job the tool would take off someone’s plate — as a sentence with a verb in it? “Somebody replies to the form fills.” “Somebody writes the monthly email.”

Question two: cost against hours saved

Measure cost against hours saved.

For the tool you are paying for — or considering — has anyone put the monthly price next to the hours it actually saves, on paper?

Question three: the human in the loop

Keep a human in the loop.

Who reads what the machine writes before a customer sees it?

Question four: the cost of errors

Understand the cost of errors.

When it gets something wrong — a price, a date, a promise — how do you find out?

Question five: your data options

Know your data options.

Your customer list, and everything these tools learn from it — do you know where it lives, and could you take it and leave?
